January 2008: Pluto enters Capricorn

Pluto enters Capricorn on January 25th. It will retrograde back to Sagittarius in June. It'll turn direct then settle into Capricorn in November for about a 15 year stay in the sign of the Goat. Outer planet sign changes are rare, especially Pluto, so this ingress signals a major shift in our collective consciousness.

While in Sagittarius, Pluto exposed political, religious and philosophical divides. The polarization of belief systems allows for us to stimulate discussion and learn to come together. It also can trigger conflict (which also has evolutionary import) as witnessed in red and blue states, cultural divides, religious tensions and abuses and manipulations (Pluto) by those who set policy or religious/philosophical doctrine (Sagittarius).

Pluto in Capricorn addresses the evolution of corporate structures, business and the status quo of operations. Any institutions whose power is damaging progress is likely to be exposed in order for us to move forward. Also, traditional paradigms (Capricorn) that suffocate expansion are scheduled to face Plutonian transformation. Capricorn is interested in solidification, preservation and the centralization of power. While Pluto transits this sign, it will bring to urgency the detrimental excesses of this nature in order to catalyze reform, if not a complete overhaul of business operations.

The great triumph of capitalism also has shown a dark-side, mainly corporate greed, the exploitation of people and resources, a deleterious impact on the environment and the polarization of rich and poor. It is difficult to construe the collective as a human family or community in the current state when power is so concentrated. Considering that cherished businesses, legacies, paradigms and familiar social organization is at stake, there is bound to be marked resistance to reform from those in power. If we can be brutally honest and join collectively (Pluto), we just might be able to topple structures in a proactive way. Consider that the U.S. was founded by revolution the last time Pluto was in Capricorn. Now, we are ready to perform a similar reevaluation of how power has been corrupted.
