May 2007: Breaking
on Through
May features an exact square between Jupiter and Uranus --
perhaps the most uplifting, optimistic and exhilarating combination
in astrology. There is urgency (square) to fashion a progressive
(Uranus) philosophy (Jupiter). The feverish jockeying among
presidential candidates at this early time is indicative of
the "can't-sit-still" excitement for revolution
of Jupiter-Uranus. Stephen Hawking is prepping to be launched
into outer space, a most thrilling and horizon-expanding opportunity.
This month we'll review notable famous
people that carry this interchange. Progressive politicians
who have put forth a vision of change include: Franklin Roosevelt,
Adlai Stevenson, Mahatma Gandhi, Mikhail Gorbachev, Golda
Meir, Nelson Mandela, Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, The Dalai
Lama, Gary Hart, Bill Clinton and Ralph Nader. Amazingly,
John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Edward Kennedy all
have these planets very tightly in major aspect (square, sextile
and trine respectively). Sometimes, Jupiter manifests with
a dominant purpose. Al Gore's crusade to deal with global
warming seeks to change our approach to life (Jupiter) in
order to align with a larger vision of evolution (Uranus).
Jupiter-Uranus correlates to air and space exploration: Yuri
Gagarin, Svetlana Savitskaya, Sally Ride, Neil Armstrong,
Buzz Aldrin, John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, Deke Slayton, Jim
Lovell, Frank Borman, Wally Schirra, Thomas Patten Stafford
and John Watts Young all have it. The adventuresome spirit
of taking off (Jupiter) into the unknown (Uranus) is seen
with aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright, Clément
Ader (first manned, powered, heavier-than-air flight of a
significant distance), Otto Lilienthal (first controllable
glider), Ferdinand von Zeppelin (founder of airship company),
Louis Blériot (first flight over a large body of water in
a heavier-than-air craft), Frank Whittle (patented the jet
engine), Chuck Yeager (broke sound barrier) and Bertrand Piccard
(first to circle Earth in a balloon).
Other progressive
figures who have been catalysts for social change include:
Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Abbie Hoffman, Gloria Steinem and
Malcolm X -- all zealously promoted their philosophies in
revolutionary ways. The plight of Leonard Peltier has been
symbolic of the fight for freedom from tyranny. Current ACLU
President, vocal feminist and supporter of legalizing marijuana,
Nadine Strossen also has this interchange. Rosie O'Donnell
has been a visible celebrity promoting homosexual rights and
other liberal causes. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam is a leading
proponent of environmental awareness while Julia Butterfly
Hill (Sun/Jupiter in Aquarius trine Uranus in pacifist Libra)
is an environmental activist who lived in a tree for over
2 years to protect it from loggers.
Albert Einstein's
philosophical (Jupiter) and scientific breakthroughs (Uranus)
have made many advances and explorations possible. Some inventors
who similarly brought a leap (Jupiter) in progress (Uranus)
through inventions that enable greater expansion: Thomas Edison
(light bulb, phonograph, projector), Alexander Graham Bell
(telephone) and Tim Berners-Lee is credited with inventing
the World Wide Web. Dennis Gabor invented holography which
brings perception (Jupiter) to non-tangible territory (Uranus).
Joseph Michel Montgolfier invented the hot air balloon, the
first craft to bring humans into the sky. Buckminster Fuller
is credited with many inventions, most notably the geodesic
dome--he also put forth philosophical ideas (Jupiter) regarding
the implications of technological advancement (Uranus). Giovanni
Luppis invented the torpedo which delivers long-range (Jupiter)
explosion (Uranus). János Bolyai discovered non-Euclidian
geometry and said, "Out of nothing I have created another,
new universe," Jupiter/Uranus words par excellence.
